Activities can be found in villages and small towns with magical names like Thurso, Durness, Lochinver, Dornoch, Ullapool, Gairloch and Portree. The village shop will provide most of your self-catering needs but also look out for the butcher’s van or the fisherman selling his catch at the harbour.
The region offers tremendous scope for hill walking, mountaineering and rock climbing, plus there are caves and waterfalls to be explored, including the stunning Falls of Measach over the Corrieshalloch Gorge which is 150ft high.
Nature lovers will enjoy many opportunities to view herds of red deer, soaring eagles and buzzards in the hills, or otters, porpoises and whales around the coastline. Many of our self-catering cottages in this part of Scotland are well placed for fishing, golf, hill-walking or bird-watching.
